Project description:
"...this has none of the things I had imagined" was the reaction from Anthony Williams, director of Chicago to the first set model I made ,"but I love it!" So we went ahead with an ambitious multi level design with a tunnel, a watchtower and walkways which the cast could inhabit, climb and swing on, transforming from a dark and dirty prison to a seedy nightclub or a circus ring, all with overtones of art deco and framed by giant portraits taken from the artist Tamara Lempika
Violence and scandal are expressed in the steel bars and giant newspaper headlines, with the surreal hanging of Hunyak seen centre stage on the higher level. Dramatic changes of lighting with swags of festoon lights bring decadence and glamour to a full-on vaudeville finale, feathers and all.
