Fiona Watt

fiona-watt-photoWEBFiona Watt is UK Scenography Commissioner for OISTAT. She is a freelance scenographer, creative producer and lecturer.

Using elements of her scenographic process, and collaborating with artists across a range of disciplines, she has devised a series of projects exploring themes of space, time and identity in the shifting urban landscape surrounding her studio in the North Kent regeneration zone,  enabling members of the local community to interact with this process of change.

In 2011 she was one of six international artists leading ‘Six Acts’, a site-specific interaction with the city of Prague for Scenofest at the Prague Quadriennal of Performance Design and Space. Working with around twenty students and emerging artists across the fields of performance design, visual art and architecture, she created an interactive six month online task-based research process that culminated in a series of micro interactions in the city over the duration of the festival.

In 2011/12 she was Design Workshop Leader for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Open Stages programme. Developed as part of the World Shakespeare Festival, the RSC’s contribution to the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, a team of creative practitioners travelled the length and breadth of the UK offering skills exchange workshops to around 3 500 amateur and community theatre-makers.

She sits on the management committee for the Society of British Theatre Designers, and is a regular contributor to Blue Pages, the SBTD’s quarterly journal.

She is passionate about developing opportunities for emerging practitioners to interact with more established ones and at World Stage Design 2013 saw many new international collaborations beginning.
